The Three Major Forest Farms in Taiwan

Taipingshan Forest Farm, Basianshan Forest Farm and Alishan Forest Farm

The origin of the name-- Jioujhihze：
According to the map (The Mountain-climbing Map of Taipingshan) made by the Department of Forest Management under Governor-General of Taiwan, the location was called” Hadonozawa“(ハトノ沢) ，meaning ”swamp of pigeon”; and later, it was also called “Asahizawa”. In 1969, the forestry authorities built a hot spring resort at this location and changed the name into “Zenze”; however, the locals preferred to use the name “Shozui”( hot water) instead. Finally, in 2004, the authorities changed the name again and recovered the earliest name “Jioujhihze”( This time, it was pronounced in Mandarin rather than in Japanese.)
