LocationMaosing station  (It needs to take Bong Bong Train at Taipingshan Villa to access.)

Total length:  1.6km

Elevation1870m

Maosing Reminiscent Trail starts from the Maosing Station’s platform, the total length is 1.6km. It is built on the old tracks of Bong Bong Train, and its slope is rather moderate. On the trail, there are full-fledged facilities for rest and interpretive signs for visitors to thoroughly appreciate the history, natural resources and geology of this nostalgic trail.

The old logging trail was built under Japanese authorities, which meanders between the forests of Taiwan Cypress, Taiwan Hinoki and Japanese cedar. In the direction of the sun, a whole area of Formosan Alders stands in the valley. On the other hand, both sides of the trail are full of humidity-tolerant, shade-tolerant plants, ferns and ground cover plants. You will encounter forest, cliff, creek, tracks and loggers hut on your way. After all, Maosing Reminiscent Trail, like a time machine, will bring you back to the days of logging decades ago.

Moreover, Maosing Line has the most of mountain railway bridges in Taipingshan and is the epitome of forest railway. It began to operate in 1937 and stopped in 1979. Between those years, the sound Bong Bong Train makes had continued to resonate in the valleys where it went through. Finally, the bright yellow Bong Bong Train became a symbol of human-scape in Taipingshan. From Taipingshan Villa to the terminal station of Maosing Line, the Bong Bong Train ride is about 20 minutes. Starting from the terminal station platform, the trip of reminiscence begins to unfold.

Maosing Reminiscent Trail is the best example of a win-win situation for both historical heritage and safe environment. Since most of the railway ties are rotting while the tracks are still in good condition, the authorities decide to preserve the tracks and replace the ties with crushed stone to build a safe walk for visitors. In addition, most of the old wooden bridges are either rotting or already broken so that they need a thorough renovation. As a result, some are repaired and become part of the trail, some are preserved as what they are and some are torn down and replaced with new suspension bridges. By means of calculated design, Maosing Reminiscent Trail is not only a safe, comfortable trail to hike but also skillfully preserves the environment and the taste of old wooden bridge.
