「Wangyang」 means viewing the ocean from a high point. Wangyangshan is at elevation 2,050 m, and the source of north tributary of Nanao River. The entrance of Wangyangshan Trail is just next to Cueifong Villa, its total length is 1.2 km. The trail is the best position to watch the sun rise at Cueifong Scenic Area. In good weather condition, from Wangyangshan, visitors can see clearly the Yilan Plain and, sometimes, even the Turtle Island in the Pacific Ocean.
Wangyangshan Trail is comprised of sand and gravel pavement, crushed stone pavement and wooden stairs which are raised up gradually. The features of this trail include forests of Taiwan Cypress and Taiwan Hinoki, the panorama of Yilan Plain and the sun rise from the ending point. The degree of difficulty of this trail is medium and it is suitable to hike at all seasons.
It is recommended, before taking this trail, to check the schedule of the sun rise at local time. First, climb up the Sun Rise Viewing Platform and enjoy the panorama of the sun rise, the Holy ridgeline, the Yilan Plain and the north tributary of Nanao River. Second, go down the trail from the Sun Rise Viewing Platform toward Cueifong Lake. At 0.25 k, there is a fork on the trail. One way leads upward to Sunrise Pavilion and the other way leads downward to Lake Pavilion. At this moment, you can see the lake wrapped in the fog while suddenly the sunlight penetrates layers of cloud and the Nanhu Mountain and Tong Mountain gradually reveal themselves.
